- Visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum is a museum chronicling the Cambodian genocide. The site is a former secondary school that was used as Security Prison 21 (S21) by the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 until its fall in 1979. Here, inmates were systematically tortured to extract confessions and subsequently executed at the killing fields of Choeung Ek.
- The last visit is the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, 15km from Phnom Penh city, which was once an orchard and a Chinese graveyard. It was used by the Khmer Rouge regime as an execution ground to put down thousands of people in mass graves between 1975 and 1979. The site is now better known as the Killing Fields. Mass graves containing thousands of bodies were discovered at Choeung Ek after the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime. Many of the dead were former inmates in the Tuol Sleng prison. Today, Choeung Ek is a memorial marked by a Buddhist stupa. The stupa has acrylic glass sides and is filled with more than 5,000 human skulls, many of which are either shattered or had evidently been smashed. To save their bullets, they executed the victims by smashing their heads with some equipment and they smashed the children’s heads against the tree.
