- Visit the Royal Palace of Cambodia, a complex of buildings that serves as the royal residence of the King of Cambodia. The Throne Hall and Silver Pagoda are the must-see parts of its complex. It features a royal temple officially called Preah Vihear Preah Keo Morakot but commonly referred to as Wat Preah Keo Morakot or Temple of the Emerald Crystal Buddha. This pagoda houses a collection of priceless Buddha and historical objects, including the “Emerald Buddha” and the floor covered by more than 5,000 silver tiles.
- Visit the National Museum, Cambodia’s largest museum of cultural history and the country’s leading historical and archaeological museum. It has the world’s largest collection of Khmer art, sculptures, ceramics, bronzes, and ethnographic objects dating from prehistoric times to periods before, during, and after the Khmer Empire.
- Visit Independence Monument, which was built in 1958 to memorialize Cambodia's independence from France in 1953. The monument was designed by the renowned Cambodian architect “Vann Molyvann” in the shape of a lotus bud adorned with Naga heads to resemble the great Khmer temples at the Angkor historical sites. Behind the Independence Monument is a statue of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdach Preah Norodom Sihanouk, the father king of Cambodia.
- Experience a romantic evening sunset cruise at the confluence of the mighty Mekong, Tonle Sap, and Bassac rivers, right in front of the Royal Palace, for a breathtaking perspective of Phnom Penh’s capital skyline.
- Enjoy dinner and then transfer to the hotel for check-in.
- Enjoy the nightlife at Walk Street in your own style, a food paradise where you can taste a variety of Khmer dishes and eat like a local. At the same time, enjoy cultural activities and traditional Khmer performances.
Note: You must be dressed appropriately for visiting the Royal Palace. This means your pants or skirt should cover your knees and shirt cannot be sleeveless (make sure that your shirt covers your shoulders and no singlet).

Day 2
Phnom Penh – Prey Vor/Bavet Borders
- Enjoy breakfast at the hotel
- Visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, a museum chronicling the Cambodian genocide. The site is a former secondary school which was used as Security Prison 21 (S21) by the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 until its fall in 1979. Here, inmates were systematically tortured to extract confessions and subsequently executed at the killing fields of Choeung Ek.
- At the killing fields of Choeung Ek: the last visit is the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, 15km from Phnom Penh city. It was once an orchard and a Chinese graveyard. It was used by the Khmer Rouge regime as an execution ground to put down thousands of people in mass graves between 1975 and 1979. The site is now better known as the Killing Fields. Mass graves containing thousands of bodies were discovered at Choeung Ek after the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime. Many of the dead were former inmates in Tuol Sleng prison. Today, Choeung Ek is a memorial marked by a Buddhist stupa. The stupa has acrylic glass sides and is filled with more than 5,000 human skulls, many of which are either shattered or had evidently been smashed. To save their bullets, the Khmer Rouge executed the victims by smashing their heads with equipment and smashed children’s heads against the trees.
- Continue shopping at Central Market (Psar Thmey), a unique Art Deco building constructed in 1937. Inside, you’ll find a vast array of goods sold at bargain prices, from fresh produce to jewelry and souvenirs. As an alternative, you can explore Tuol Tum Poung Market, also known as the Russian Market due to its popularity with Russian expats in the 1980s. This bustling market is ideal for tourists looking for local handicrafts, clothing, antiques, and art.
